Lanternlight at Forsaken Midway

"A narrow, fog-stitched cobblestone alley opens at twilight onto an abandoned small-town fairground, cool dusk pooling in the seams of the stones while tattered carnival banners flutter beyond the mist and rusted ride silhouettes loom like skeletons. From a three-quarter view down the lane the foreground is dominated by an antique carousel horse with chipped ivory paint and flaking gilt, its close-up beside a single tilted gas lamppost spilling a small pool of honeyed light, the cobbles forming a leading line that pulls the eye inward. In the midground a marionette puppet extends a stiff wooden hand to a top-hatted raven—black feathers glossy under the brim as it intones a low, carnival-barker drawl—and in a quietly uncanny surprise the horse’s neck and the leaning lamppost seem to tuck forward, listening as if alive.
